Umm...city 2?

So I wasn't really sure how to title this post. Technically I am in my 4th city of this trip if you include Airports, but I decided to go with the number of cities I am actually exploring.

I have arrived safely, but not unevntfully in Salzburg. I had some issues with the Munich trains (delays and trains not running at all) and I missed not only the train I planned to take but also the one after that. I finally got out at 4:40.

So anyway, before I get into Salzburg, I shall talk about my day in Munich. I woke up at about 7:30 and I organized and packed all of my stuff. I was running a little late so my only breakfast was some chocolate milk, and chocolate teddy grahms a few hours later. I headed down to Marienplatz where I found Christopher Street Day was happening which made the square a zoo. I took a few pictures around and then found my tour guide, the same on as for the Dachau tour. I was worried I'd be the only one on the tour but a few mins later, 28 more people showed up. 2 of the are from Elkins Park...how odd.

So we went on our 2.5 walking tour around munich. We saw different memorials, the main Nazi meeting building (now a music school) and some other interesting places. I wish I would have measured my walking for the last week cause I am sure I have walked more than 100 miles.

So upon completion of our tour, I meandered through the city and eventually found my way back to Marienplatz. On my way, I found myself in the middle of the Christopher Street Day parade which was amusing. Once back at Marienplaty, I got a really awesome smoothie and then hopped on a train to the Soccer Arena. That was also quite a walk from the train station. Then I headed back to Marineplatz to hop on the S-bahn to the Hauptbahnhof to hop on the tram to my hostel. I had to sit at the tram stop for 20 mins cause they kept cancelling the train I needed and then finally I gave us and hopped on a different tram. That one takes me only half way back to the hostel but I figured once there I could either walk, or get a taxi for pretty cheap. So it turned out that one I got to Romanplatz (half way) the 17 tram was running again so I waited for that and it came 5 mins alter. So I got to my hostel, grabbed my stuff and rushed to the train station, only to miss the train by 5 mins. So I had to sit around the train station for an hour and wait for the next one.

Finally it came and I took my 2 hour journey to Salzburg. Along the way we saw lots of mountain and the Chiemsee (big lake type thing). I also studied my German flash cards and listened to German music on my ipod. Then I arrived at Salzburg. I got off the train and I was like "where's the train station." It is so little, like 4 tracks....Munich has 26 just to give you an idea.

So yeah, Salzburg is tiny. It's very pretty but it's also quiet. I miss the hustle and bustle of Munich. I got here at 7 and everything was closed, there were hardly any people around, and I was just confused. My hostel is on the river, in the middle of the city-ish part of Salzburg, right on the Salzach River. It's about a 10 minute walk to the old town. I have 2 roommates-one from Indiana and one from North Carolina. They are studying in Freiburg, Germany and they are just here for a weekend.

Tomorrow I check into my program at 2 and then I get to move into my dorm. Then I will have my own internet connection and I'll be able to upload my photos. I'm excited to get my program started...I'm tired of being a tourist. Monday we have placement tests and then Tuesday is the first day of class. We only have 14 total classes...how crazy is that. So tomorrow and Monday are really just free days. After that it'll become routine, yay!

Ok, I am tired. I think I shall head back to my room and relax till I'm ready to sleep.

Sarah
